Tophill Low Nature Reserve

We decided to blow the cobwebs away with a New Years Day walk at Tophill Low and for once this winter the sun was out and we didn't get wet once!

We started at the second hide overlooking D reservoir, there were plenty of Tufted Ducks and loads of Coots.

Gadwall and Wigeon

We then took a walk through the woods and saw quite a few small birds enjoying the sunshine.

Chaffinch

Blue Tit

Robin

Great Tit

We then went on to O reservoir and saw a Goldeneye for the first time in quite a while.

We could hear lots of Geese, but could not at see them at their usual haunt, Watton Carrs we eventually found them on the flooded land around Easingwold Farm.

I don't think they will be using these bales of straw for a while!

On the way back to the car park there were several Goldfinch and Chaffinch feeding on the road.

and a final look over D res before we left revealed a Kestrel hunting on the nearby farmland.
